Feb 21, 2019 · Leave a Comment

MODERN-QUILT-PATTERN-BY-CORAL-AND-CO

Welcome to week 7 of the Nordic Crossing Quilt Along. This is the week that we get to start piecing rows and really see what the quilt is going to look like when it is finally all pieced together. This is probably my favorite weeks of the entire sew along.

NORDIC-CROSSING-QUILT-BY-CORAL-AND-CO

Laying out all the colors of this vibrant scrappy version was so fun as I watched all the beautiful fabrics come together. The fabrics in this version of the quilt is by Sonata by Amy Sinibaldi combined with solids. The coordinating solids bundle is from Cottoneer Fabrics. After this week all we will need to do is sew all the rows together and you will have your gorgeous new quilt!

Vintage Home Sewing Book Tour

Feb 7, 2019 · Leave a Comment

vintage-home-sewing-book Ok you guys let me just stop and have a moment to gush. I mean seriously there are just some people that literally cannot make an ugly project! Ami right? And I know she absolutely needs no introduction, but Bev from Flamingo Toes is definitely one of those people.
That’s why I was so excited to hear that she was going to be releasing a new book in collaborations with Nancy’s Notions filled with beautiful vintage projects that perfectly compliments her Vintage Adventure fabric line. I was even more excited when I received my copy of her new books and got to hold it in my hands and leaf through all the beautiful projects and pictures.
I met Bev last year at conference where I got to take an embroidery hoop art class from her which was so much fun. She is genuinely one of the nicest and most talented people I have met in the creative industry, and insanely talented to boot. The globe hoop art project below is totally on my to make list. I’m going to use a gingham fabric and it will fit in perfectly with the decor in my girls room.
The book is filled with lots a variety of projects that cater to different skill levels along with varying degrees of complexity and time required to make them. There are some simple and lovely hoop art projects and quick home decor along with some quilting projects that are more advanced and will take a little longer to complete.
So if you are looking to add some beautiful vintage inspired projects to your home or to gift to a friend you will want to pick up a copy of her new book Vintage Home Sewing.
The fabric bundle pictured is her first line Vintage Adventure. You can find her line Vintage Keepsakes which is now available as well.

There will be some great weekly prizes totalling over a $500 value along the way for the participants who post to the #nordiccrossingquilt hashtag on Instagram.  Be sure to check out the sponsors below!

WEEK TWO

  • Cut out your fabrics if you haven’t already.
  • Make 8 blocks
  • Remember to use the hashtag #nordiccrossingquilt on intagram.

GRAB THE PATTERN

If you don’t have the pattern already, grab your copy in the shop.

As I mentioned last week, I am making a scrappy version so all my center blocks will be different fabric prints and I love how they all look together.

You have to excuse the photos this week. My computer has refused to start, so I took all the photos on my iphone instead of my good camera. But beautiful photos or not the quilt is so fun to start sewing. I love watching the square in square blocks come together.

To start making the square in square block you will sew the two of Fabric B triangles to the opposite sides of Fabric A.

Then Press open.

To help with the center placement of the triangles, I like to make a fold along the center of the square so I can easily line up the point of the triangle with the crease.

Then sew the remaining two fabric B triangles to the other two sides of the the unit. Press open.

Trim and square up the edges, making sure that there is 1/4in seam allowance from each point of the square to the edge of the white fabric.

Repeat this steps above for placing the first unit into the the second square.

Winners are chosen and announced on Instagram.

Thank you to our sponsors this week:

The Simple Life Pattern Company – Winner will receive 3 Free Patterns of their choice.

Havel’s Sewing – A gift set of quilty notions worth $50
