Notes
Tips on using different types of Knit Fabrics:
Jersey Knit is a stretchier type of knit fabric but tends to roll when the edges are cut, making it more difficult to sew. To remedy this it is helpful to spray the fabric with starch and iron before cutting.
Interlock Knit is a more stable knit and while it doesn't stretch as much it tends to be more stable when sewing, does not roll when cut and does not require starching and ironing before cutting the fabric.

Here are some of the pretty little headbands I made for Christmas gifts using the Headband Pattern. Adorbs!
The fabric I used above is organic knit from Spoonflower. I absolutely love Spoonflower, the trendiness, and a variety of designs crazy. I mean, they are so spot-on, on what is new and cool. If you don't know about Spoonflower yet, it is a print on demand company where you can make your own designs or use other designers.
There are lots of fabric types to choose from, and they even print wrapping paper! Watch out Christmas! A few details about the type of knit fabric. It is Organic Cotton Interlock, and comes printed 56". It is a little stiff when you first get it from the printing, but once washed softens right up.
Knot Bow Headband Pattern Supplies Needed
- Jersey Knit Fabric with at least 50% stretch
- Clear Plastic Ruler
- Rotary Cutter
- Self Healing Mat
- Walking Foot (* Optional but very helpful)
- Pins or Clips
- Stretch Thread
- Jersey Ball Point Needle
- Knot Bow Headband Pattern (Located in the Resource Library)

Assemble the Pattern
If you haven't sewn with knits before I recommend using a walking foot and some stretch thread in the bottom. Add a stretch stitch and easy as pie! You can check out the tribal knot headband and the strawberry knot headband I made last year to go with Ava's outfits.

Hi there. I’m new to this so I apologize if it’s obvious but for the narrow headband the 0-3 and the 2T seem to be the same size when I printed and cut it out. And the 6-12 and 18 month are same size and bigger than 2T? Did it print out wrong? Thank you!
Vicki says
I can't see to get the complete pattern to print. I tried a 12 x 12 sheet of paper and the 1 " square is perfect size but the bottom of the headband is cut off. Any tips?
Shelly says
Did you print the graphic picture or the pdf that pops up when you click download pattern?
Vicki says
I clicked on the link and then tried to print from the PDF that opened up. I used the printer icon to print.
Malorie says
I'm having the same issue. Would love for this to work. Anyone know the solution?
Michelle says
I'm having the same problem printing the pattern- When printed at actual size from the PDF document it cuts off. If I print it to fit page the one inch square is off.
Stephanie says
I can't get it to print correctly either. Tried several different ways.
Nelda says
The pattern doesn't seem to print correctly. Could you email it? I clicked on the download load to print it.
Renea says
Thanks so much for sharing! Would love to make some of these but the pattern doesn't print to a regular size sheet of paper. Suggestions? If you save it as a pdf and open it in adobe it is WAY larger than the paper and if you shrink to fit it's not proper size. ?? Any help is greatly appreciated. 🙂 Thanks again!
Lindsay says

The pattern is not downloading correctly, it doesn't fit on the page. Could you please fix this for me??
Shelly says
Did you try actual size?
Cheryl says
Thanks so much for this pattern! It's perfect to teach a beginner. But, you say to stitch with wrong sides together and that just doesn't make sense to me. No one else has mentioned it so I wonder if I'm not understanding something.
Mrs. Thorp says
I did not understand WST either. Some clarification would be helpful.
Misty says
You stitch the wro ng sides together so the seam is on the inside. You then flip it out the right way.
Shelly says
the right sides together and flip out. Sorry it was a typo! eek.
Kirstie says
Heya I'm not too sure how to work out the measurements for this patter thanks
Nicole says
Is this pattern still available? There doesn't seem to be a link attached to download. I am able to click on the photo and an image of the entire page pops up.

Hi!
These bands are very beautiful, congratulations and thanks for sharing the tutorial.
I clicked on the pink button to get the paper pattern in PDF inserting my email, but I did not receive anything. Kindly, how can I do to get the patterns with the actual measurements? Thank you
Shelly says
Try it again. It should take you right to the page. If my computer loads slow or stops loading sometimes it doesn’t go through.
Nancy says
Oh yes, I tried again and now it worked!
You are very kind, thank you again!
Nancy
Shelly says
Ok great! So glad it worked 🙂
Melissa says
Love these! What kind of fabric did you use?

Thanks, Tonya

How much fabric should I get? Would fat quarters work? Sorry new to sewing!
Sara says
Do you just tie a regular knot?
Shelly says
Yes just a regular knot!
Carla says
Hi Shelly this pattern is perfect! How can I make these for adults? Do I double the measurements?
Shelly says
I would measure your head, divide it in half and then add the knot bow piece of the pattern (the last 5 inches or so).
elise says
Thank you for this cute pattern, do you think it's possible to do it in cotton fabric? I can maybe add an elastic or something else? I am doing a summer romper for a baby girls (due date coming july) and i want to have a matching headband.

Same question as Elise! I have some cotton fabric I was looking to use for this.

Hi!
I don’t have access to a printer currently ... could you let me know how many inches or cm long you made this headband? And how do you think the measurements would change depending on the baby’s age?
They’re so cute. Thanks!
Nadine says
hello shelly,
which pattern is for 4 + 5 month and for the 13-17 months? 18 month is it up to 2 T?
Thanks for help.
Nadine
Meriah says
Love the pattern!
One small note, and I know it's shown properly in the sizing legend, but the sizing for the narrow 0-3 vs 6-12 (first pattern at top of page) is a touch confusing! The 6-12 months in writing at the very top seems as though it's referring to the dotted line (top) vs, the dashed line (bottom). Just thought I'd mention it in case any one else was confused!
Thanks for this post!
Maggie Chen says
Thank you for sharing. I love it.
Mardee Sherman says
Someone else mentioned the 0-3 mo. vs. 6-12 months and I am also confused. When I measure them, the 0-3 months is actually longer than the 6-12 months size, which makes no sense. Is this a typo? Thanks!
Jan Omo says
Can I get this pattern and tutorial as a free download? It keeps trying to get me to install some special program which I do not want.
Shelly says
There is no program to download. Did you press the pink button?
Ydanis says
Hi! The pink button is not working. Could you fix? Thanks!
Jessica R says
Love this, just wondering how much fabric I would need to make these, maybe in the 2T size as that's the largest?
Katlyn says
I'm wondering the same thing!
Sarah says
I am also wondering how much fabric to buy for this. I’ve read it all 3 times looking for info, it must be left off
Trish says
I would also like to know, but noticed all the way back through questions and comments, no one ever responds to this question.
Shelly says
5" x 24" should be enough for each one.
Brissy says
I cannot seem to download the file for cricut 🙁
Shelly says
It is located here: https://www.coralandco.com/blog/2018/01/woven-knotted-bow-headband-pattern-with-svg-cut-files-for-cricut-maker.html
Susan says
I am ready to make these cute headbands for my granddaughter. Is there anywhere that I could get an idea of what head circumference (at headband area) matches with each size of your pattern? That would be really helpful.
Thanks!
Abby Murphy says
Also confused about the 0-3 and 6-12 month narrow headband. I think the labels got flip flopped or something. Appreciate some clarification. Thanks for the pattern.
Shelly says
The pattern is updated and fixed. 🙂

Hello, I would love to make a headband to match the romper I made using woven fabric. Can I use this pattern with woven fabric?
Shelly says
yes, if you cut it in half and add some elastic to the back like in this tutorial: https://www.coralandco.com/blog/2018/01/woven-knotted-bow-headband-pattern-with-svg-cut-files-for-cricut-maker.html
Susan says

Shelly says
It is located in the resource library.
Mary Gambino says
Hi - Thanks for the pattern. I don't seem to see sizes on the last three pages of the pattern or a key for these. I need for a 3T. Is that the smallest on the last 3 pages. Made one for a 3 month old and it was SO cute!
Mary Gambino says
So sorry, I found the size chart...
JJ says
The pdf in the resource library does not have the adult sizes, I thought it says above it now includes the bigger sizes.
Shelly says
They are included in the headband pattern download under free patterns.
Charlotte says
Hi, I couldn't find the larger pattern sizes either. I've downloaded the pattern from the resource library. Thanks so much for making it available but I'd love to have the bigger sizes too.
Shelly says
The new sizes are on pages 7 - 10. I will fix the markings so you can see the correct sizes.
Charlotte says
Thanks. There were only 4 pages in the file I downloaded! Is there a different file to the knot headband in the resources section? Thank you
