    Ruffle Apron Onesie Tutorial

The APRON ONESIE was inspired by my amazing friend who photographs the most beautiful baby pictures.  I thought that this might be a fun prop for a baby photo shoot or for momma's that love to cook.

apron onesie patternFor the fabric, I used Tasha Noel's Little Red Riding Hood.  I love how playful it is and the bright colors.  The onesie made above was a size 3 months.  The template can be easily adjusted for larger sizes by adding 1/4" around the template for each size bigger.

This project is perfect for scraps and precuts,

    What you will need:

Cut 2 of Apron Front and Back pieces

    Waist Band:  2.5" x 43" strip

    Top Ruffle: 2.5" x 9" strip

    Bottom Ruffle:  2.5" x 24" strip

Neck Strap: (2) 2" x 4" strips  (not pictured above)ruffle apron onesieFold the ruffle strip Right Sides Together and stitch the ends closed.  Turn Wrong Sides Together and gather raw edge.  Align raw edges of ruffle to apron top with the fold facing toward the middle.  Pull the ends of the ruffles slightly upward so it tapers of the apron piece.  Sandwich the ruffles between both apron pieces RST and using a 1/2" seam sew a "U" shape around the left, top, and right sides leaving the bottom piece open.  Turn right side out and top stitch (optional).  Repeat for the bottom piece except extend the ruffle all the way around.  Clip corners.

With apron front sides facing each other, align raw edges and sew 1/2" seam.  Open up and press seam toward the bottom piece.

apron oneste tutorialFold the waistband strip in half and using a 1/4" seam sew one short side and down the long side.  Turn right side out and press.  Turn the open end under 1/4" and sew closed.

For the neck straps, I only sew the outer edge. placing it along the shoulder seam so I left room for the onesie to fit over babies head 🙂 I also only sew the top and bottom sides of the apron top so the knit fabric would still be able to stretch with the baby since I was using a woven fabric for the apron.

I sewed a rectangular shape along the waistband, starting and stopping at the ruffle edges.

I love that the back is reversible!
