For this weeks Put Me to the Zoo challenge for Project Run and Play, we went blue. Like Blue Bird Blue. The blue bird actually came around since my daughter had tried on her Grandmothers costume from when she was a child (It was actually falling apart). Since we had some blue birds on the mind, so I thought what better then a vibrant blue.
I used some voile from Hawthorne Threads and some powder blue satin from Joann's. The combination of these two fabrics made the softest dress eeever. sigh. I just want to float in the skirt actually, its so light and airy. I used a basic bodice from a vintage pattern . Then I widened the neckline and add a faux peter pan collar by turning down/rolling over the top of the bodice. I think that is my favorite part of the dress. I made a circle skirt with an asymmetrical color block. The final version of this dress wasn't my original plan but I am happy with the outcome. I think the bodice is a bit wide on McKenna, but I plan to do some tweaking on the pattern, because I really like the effect. And Mckenna is pretty convinced that I made a princess dress for her, so win win!
I finished the dress just in the nick of time and of course the sun decided to come out from behind the clouds, so I apologize the washing out effect, and satin and the sun don't mix. sad face. But the shade of blue is phenomenal either way.
