Where we live beachwear is serious fashion Flashes of brightly colored Lily Pulizter shift dresses and Vineyard Vines tunics can be spotted around everywhere. I really adore these looks but would not think about dropping the kind of change these outfits cost. And, of course I sew, right?
For my own beachy cover up, I went with the Abby Tunic from the Girl's World Book by Jennifer Paginelli that I blogged about earlier here and here. I love the Caribbean vibe of all her fabric, the bright colors make me happy! I modified the front to make a slit down the front and took the back closure out to so there is no opening in the back. Since I put the slit in, it is big enough to fit over her head. If I did it over again, I would have made the slit slightly smaller, but it still works well as a coverup. If you like the pattern, but don't want to bother with modifications the Sophie Tunic is another great option. For the hack, I also used a light fusible interfacing to keep the collar shape.
